KALASAG OPENED ITS CAMP WITH
THEIR ADOPTED SCHOOLS
S7 Section, 5LAB
Republic Act 8525 otherwise known as the
"Adopt-a-School Act of 1998"
declared a policy that the State to provide quality and relevant
education to the Filipino youth and to encourage initiative to support
public education. Towards this end, the State shall institute programs
to encourage companies and enterprises to help in the upgrading and
modernization of public schools in the country, particularly those in
poverty-stricken provinces.
The
unit’s
“Adopt-A-School Program”
started in the early part of third quarter last year when the unit had
been establishing partnership with San Simon National High School, San
Simon, Cagayan de Oro City. One of the farthest high school in the place
which is almost 30 kilometres away from the downtown. It started with a
simple manpower assistance wherein some of the personnel joined the
members of the Parents Teachers Association in repainting the school and
some minor repairs of the school facilities. In the same manner,
the feeding program with the students of Gaudioso Legaspi Reyes Anhawon
Elementary School started
the unit’s rapport and series of manpower assistance provided for the
said school.

A
true adopt-a-school program is a pro-poor movement that will help ensure
access to quality education for the Filipino youth. Our partnership with
these schools has the following objectives:
1. To facilitate and represent to other agencies for
the assistance and services needed by the partnering school.
2. To provide opportunities/experiences for the
students and faculty and to promote social consciousness and awareness;
3. To share expertise and resources in order to improve
the quality of instruction of the adopted school; and,
4. To promote and maintain harmonious relationship with
the adopted school in order to realize the objectives of the program.
The
learners of these two schools are the inspiration of the unit which is
why an
“OPEN CAMP”
has been crafted as the main
highlight of the activities for the 10th
Unit’s Founding Anniversary which was celebrated last April 8, 2010 with
the objective of strengthening the established relationship between the
students of these schools and the soldiers. The following civic-oriented
activities were the components of the
“OPEN CAMP”:
Joyride with the Armored Vehicles; Film
Showing; Free Medical and Dental Program (MEDCAP), Feeding Program and
Boodlefight.
Simple as it may, the Open Camp had also its budgetary requirements
especially the medicines for the free MEDCAP. This prompted the
institution to source out assistance with the generous friends of the
unit to realize the OPEN CAMP activities which in turn made the donors
respond positively.
The
activity started with the arrival of the beneficiaries from San Simon
National High School in San Simon and G.L Reyes Anhawon Elementary
School onboard M450 and
Isuzu Elf. Also, dental detachment from 4ID headed by Capt. Dalaguit
(DS), dental officer of dental detachment of CESH, 4ID, PA and medical
team of CESH, 4ID headed by 2Lt. Garcia (Nurse Corps) were also present.
Art
Bonjoc and Bernie Bitok-bitok from ABS-CBN Northen Mindanao were present
at this headquarters during the conduct of the OPEN CAMP activities. The
duo took news coverage and had it broadcasted live over their Morning
Show:
PAMAHAW ESPECIAL.
The anniversary activities were also featured in the local TV Patrol
Northern Mindanao of ABS-CBN in their morning and afternoon edition.
The
activity culminated on or about 8 o’clock in the morning with 26
patients benefited by the free circumcision while some 71 patients were
benefited from the tooth extraction and 133 beneficiaries of the Feeding
Program.
We
are doing these non-traditional roles with the ultimate vision that
“every Filipino citizen must see a
soldier as a peacemaker – an instrument and a representative of peace!”
